Scran Academy have won a national Public Sector Catering Award!
We are thrilled to announce that Scran Academy has won a prestigious award from Public Sector Catering magazine. We were up against stiff competition from across the whole of the UK, but thanks to our team of volunteers, staff and, above all, our awesome young people, Scran’s unique model of bespoke educational support and professional kitchen training sealed the deal and won us the Training and Apprenticeship Award!
Our catering operations are essential to us delivering the confidence-building experiences for young people that are the heart of our winning formula. The Scran Café, serving the heroes in the NHS Comely Bank Centre, and the Scran Van, delivering free community meals, feeding youth groups, and supporting families across the city, are an integral part of Scran Academy, and provide our young people with opportunities to learn, gain new skills and solve problems in real-life situations.
Founder John Loughton and Catering Manager Will Bain attended the glitzy PSC Awards ceremony in the Hilton Metropole in London on the 9th of September, alongside industry bigwigs from major organisations like Bidfood and Brakes. Will said “it blew me away to be up against catering managers with hundreds, sometimes thousands of employees, and for them to give us recognition for the work we do at Scran”. Host Gyles Brandreth took a shine to us (and especially to John’s tartan troos!) and commented “I hope they win, they are really something”. And win we did!
We wouldn’t have won without the achievements of our awesome young people, who time and time again show us that when given the chance they can make the most of opportunities, work hard and succeed. Scran young people, this award is for you!
