Hear from our Chair Gillian Hunt and our CEO Ian Midwinter on why Scran and Ian are the perfect fit.
Gillian: As Chair of the Board of Trustees, I am delighted to welcome Ian as the new Chief Executive Officer of Scran Academy. Ian is an experienced strategic youth work professional and joins us from the Salvation Army where he was the East Scotland Divisional Youth Specialist. A keen footballer, Ian coaches boys and girls football in Kirkliston and South Queensferry, and manages Gorgie United FC.
Scran Academy exists to help young people overcome poverty-related barriers, to thrive through accessing experiences, support relationships and skills required to change their own lives we are delighted to welcome Ian Midwinter as our new Chief Executive Officer to lead the way. Ian is passionate about helping young people reach their potential and has the experience, expertise and drive to do just that at Scran Academy.
The Board Trustees have already started working with Ian and are excited to welcome him as out new Chief Executive.
Ian: Well it’s great to finally be here and to officially get started. SCRAN is already proving to be a special organisation who do fabulous work and I am very privileged to be able to play a part in its journey to help our young people realise their value and potential.
For the past 14 years, I have worked for The Salvation Army resourcing, managing and inspiring youth and children’s work in the East Scotland area. Like many, the pandemic gave me a chance to reflect on what would come next for me in my career. I was looking for a new challenge that would inspire and challenge me to continue improving. I have found that in SCRAN. As I have got to know the staff team, young people and trustees it has become clear that I am joining a passionate and driven organisation who are determined to push boundaries and give young people opportunities to thrive. It has become very clear that SCRAN is more than just a social enterprise charity but a family who continuously look for new ways to support and help each other achieve their potential.
This is an exciting time to be joining SCRAN as we have launched the 3-year ‘Scranifesto’ which will continue to build on the excellent work that we already do. As CEO, I look forward to the opportunities to help shape the future and continue to build the amazing reputation that SCRAN has with the North Edinburgh community and beyond.
We love having Ian on board and wish him all the best in his new role!
