Today we publish our annual 'Impact Report'. We are so proud of the grassroots difference we continue to make as a community-led social enterprise.
Since starting six years ago, almost 300 young people have accessed our educational and volunteering programmes across Edinburgh! We have also helped 1,178 families with food, grants, and support, and activated over 500 volunteers!
Last year alone was a huge year of delivery and innovation for Scran. More young people than ever attended and graduated from our core education and employability programmes with the vast majority of them going on to life-changing opportunities. 16 young people enrolled in our Academy programme, helping to tackle Edinburgh's poverty related attainment gap. 25 young people also accessed our Scransitions employability programme, with 92% of them moving into jobs, education or continuing on the programme.
We continue to support more faces across more spaces and places than ever before throughout the city. We delivered more events (182!) from the Scran Van last year than all other years combined! Not only do we fill bellies and hearts, but each event is also an opportunity for young people to gain crucial volunteering and leadership experience. This included embracing our diverse communities with attendance at Edinburgh PRIDE, hosting events for the Ukranian community, and running Scran & Signposting events, which provided families facing poverty with critical utility and benefits support, as well as tasty Scran!
2022-3 was stacked full of highlights, including our first ever youth residential, and first ever Parliamentary Reception - celebrating half a decade of Scran’s impact. Our catering enterprises increased income by 65% and we created over 1,200 hours of living wage paid work to seven local young people. We piloted our relationship-based tutoring programme as well as used our Scran Van as a mobile learning space for the first time - both programmes working with and in schools and community hubs citywide.
Our young people, staff and volunteers are already hard at work delivering for next year. We are fuelled by our mission to give EVERY young person the chances and choices they deserve in life to thrive.
