Francesca Seminara

Youth Development Worker

I am Francesca, I joined Scran recently as a Youth Development Worker, mainly for the Tutoring Programme and to support the sessions within the Academy.

In brief, I have been working as a Language Teacher for Adult Education at the City of Edinburgh Council for many years, and before as a Primary School Teacher in the suburbs of my city, Rome. There, facing many challenges, related to young people, who lived in deprived areas, something sparked in me: the will to do something about it. In parallel, my studies in Juvenile Criminology increased my interest in antisocial behaviour among young people, and the strong motivation to help them in any possible way.

Afterwards, I was a Team Leader for 7 years for a social organisation which works with young people from minority groups, my aim was to promote social inclusion and doing it through different socio-educational activities.

The Scran programme I am involved with is a great chance to offer opportunities to the most vulnerable young people, to encourage and enable them to achieve their goals in learning and in life. Here, I can combine my experiences, knowledge, and personal sensitivity, to do so.

In my free time, I love travelling, meeting friends, music, and cinema, as well as walking by the sea and writing poems. I would like to inspire young people to enjoy these activities too.

My slogan is “Live life to the fullest and make every experience a positive one”.
